Giorgos Marinakis was born in Athens in 1971 and comes from Ano Meria Folegandros in the Cyclades. He was introduced to traditional music by his father (a traditional musician of the island) who was his first violin teacher. He also took violin lessons from George Mariola and was taught Byzantine music by Lykourgos Angelopoulos.

He is a member of the musical group TAKIM and the traditional orchestra “THRIA” of the Municipality of Aspropyrgos.
He has taught for several years (1992-1996) at the Standard Music High School of Pallini and other music schools. Since 1995 she has been teaching violin in the traditional music section of the “Philippos Nakas” Conservatory.
