On September 24, 2022, on the occasion of the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the founding of the University of Padua, the Urani Foundation of the Academy of Athens, in collaboration with the Chair of Modern Greek Language and Literature and the Interdepartmental Centre for the Study of the History of Aristotelianism and Classical Tradition of the Italian University, organized a conference on the presence of Greek students in Padua and their contribution to the development of Greek education.

At the same time, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, the conference concluded with a concert held at the historic Salla dei Gigandi of the University of Padua, entitled “Nightingales of the East and Birds of the West”.

The programme included representative songs from Smyrna-Ionia, Constantinople-Propontis, Pontus and Cappadocia.

The artistic curator and presentation was Lambros Liavas, Professor of Ethnomusicology at the Department of Music Studies of the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens, and the musical curator was Alexandros Kapsokavadis, member of the Department’s EEP.

The band “Mnemosyne” participated, consisting of lecturers and students of the Postgraduate Programme “Ethnomusicology and Music Practice”.
