Qanun

In the context of the Master’s degree course “Performance/Interpretation of Traditional – Folk Music” the qanun will be studied through the following three versions:

1. From the presence of the instrument in the musical traditions of the wider Greek area, with the study of its interpretative and performing characteristics as they appear in the Greek repertoire until today.

2. On the musical significance of the cannon as a reference instrument of the tropical music traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean

3. From the evolutionary potential of the instrument through the trends it displays in the contemporary musical search

The aim is for the graduate to be an applied connoisseur – performer of the qanun within the context of today’s Greek musical reality.
