Achilleas-Apostolos Tigkas was born in Volos in 1984. From a very young age he began studying classical European and Byzantine church music. He holds a diploma in Byzantine music from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki (class of P. Pappaemmanouil) and a diploma in harmony from the Macedonian Conservatory of Thessaloniki (class of D. Athanasiadis). She is a graduate of the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia, direction of traditional music, specialization in ney (supervisor Professor C. Barbas). He also holds a Master’s degree from Istanbul Technical University, M.I.A.M. (Center for Advanced Studies in Music), specializing in the interpretation of Ottoman music on the ney, taught by the famous ney master Dr. Süleyman Ergüner. He is a PhD candidate at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Music Studies, under the supervision of Professor Achilleas Chaldaiakis. His teachers in ney, traditional flutes and the theory of Makam have been some of the most renowned performers and teachers in their genre in Greece and abroad such as Haris Lambrakis, Socrates Sinopoulos, Manos Achalinotopoulos, Christos Tsiamoulis, Ömer Erdoğdular, Ali Tan, Şehvar Beşiroğlu.
He was a founding member of many musical groups (“QADA Quartet”, “Ferah trio”, “EO”, “Mounajat”, “EBED trio”, “Terpnon” Music Ensemble) that experiment with contemporary sound based on the musical traditions of the Mediterranean. He has participated in numerous concerts in Greece and abroad with prominent performers and composers from the wider Mediterranean area such as Sumru Agiruruyen (Turkey), Lamia Bedioui (Tunisia), Ziad Razab (Syria), Efren Lopez Sanz (Spain), Zoe Tiganouria (Greece).
