Studies

PhD in Ethnomusicology-Systematic Musicology from the Georg-August University of Göttingen (Germany). Studies in Music and Philosophy (1986-1997) at the respective faculties of the same University. His doctoral thesis entitled: “Information on traditional Greek musical life in travelogues of the 18. and 19. Jahrhunderts”, published by Orbis Musicarum (Edition Re) in 1997. He was a fellow of the Onassis Foundation. Also, as a scholarship holder of the State Scholarship Foundation, he completed a postdoctoral thesis entitled: “Musical recordings of melodies of Xeropotamos Drama”. (Ed. K.Papagrigoriou-C.Nakas, 2003 Athens).

 

Research interests

His research interests focus on methodological issues, the history of the Greek musical tradition, the musical cultures of the Arabs and the Indians, as well as the secular musical traditions of the Middle Ages.
